Merlin Office Equipment is here to help you create positive environments where staff will be proud to work each day. Whilst our team sees to it that your furniture and layouts are designed around comfort, accessibility and efficiency, we like to use our blog as a place for inspirational suggestions and advice.
This time we’re looking at the best way to start the day, which can result in increased productivity and higher levels of morale. Even if you’re currently working from home, these tips will prove equally effective and could transform your working week.
Give yourself time
We get it, the snooze button is extremely tempting and having an extra five, ten or even twenty minutes of sleep is lovely. But then you get up late and the morning is a whirlwind of madness before you’ve even arrived at work, which can spoil the rest of the day.
Getting up early means you have enough time to stretch, shower, have a decent breakfast and beat the worst of the traffic. There’s also a much smaller likelihood that you’ll go out wearing odd shoes or with the TV remote control where your smartphone should be.
Listen to something
Whilst preparing and eating a healthy breakfast, listen to something enjoyable. It could be music, a podcast, part of an audiobook or even just the sounds of your neighbourhood. Keeping up to date with the news is a good habit, but if it tends to put a downer on your day it might be worth leaving it for later on.
If you have a family and can’t hear the radio over their chatter, make sure to get involved in the conversation. Starting your day this way is a chance to appreciate the little things, whether it’s your favourite album or the kids updating you on their lessons and achievements.
Take time getting dressed
We don’t mean you should spend an hour choosing the perfect tie or dress, it’s simply a case of getting the day off to a more controlled start. Dressing in a hurry can be very stressful, whereas admiring your outfit in the mirror before heading to the office can do wonders for lifting the mood.
It’s also a good idea to save getting dressed for after breakfast, as no one wants soggy cornflakes on their work trousers.
Make the bed
We realise this sounds like something you’d say to a teenager, yet many adults fail to make their bed before leaving for work. Finding a few seconds to do it is one of those silly little achievements that actually goes a long way.
We recommend making the bed shortly before setting off, as that way the mattress has been given a chance to breathe in some fresh air. The world’s most successful people make their beds each morning, why not join them?
Drink a glass of water
Enjoying a fresh glass of water in the morning is a great idea. It means you’ll be properly hydrated and it boosts the metabolism, plus it can invigorate the mind as much as a morning coffee.
Also, saving it for shortly before you leave the house means you probably won’t be bursting for the loo during your commute, which is always a bonus.
